Getting an accurate reading
One surface, three lights. The same sage wall reads warmer under a bulb, true in daylight, and cooler in shade. Whatever the camera sees, light is part of the reading.
Light first
For the truest name, hold the subject in soft, even daylight and fill the center circle with a flat area, avoiding shadows and glare. Indoor bulbs push readings warm; the torch toggle helps in dim rooms but adds its own cool cast.
How the reading works
The reading averages a small patch at the center reticle rather than a single pixel, which steadies the name as the sensor fluctuates. Freeze to get every code, palettes, contrast, and a share card. Prefer a still image? The photo analyzer gives you a magnifier for pixel-exact picking.
